At the SETAC Europe conference in Seville Ed presented his poster on the prioritisation of emerging contaminants in water on the same day that the Office for Environmental Protection (OEP) published the reports associated with this work. Ed and Iain worked with AtkinsRéalis to undertake a wide-ranging review of water quality challenges facing England and Northern Ireland by identifying emerging substances of concern, identifying critical knowledge gaps and proposing key recommendations for future work. The published report can be found here
This report fed into an overall OEP assessment that found significant failures in the implementation of regulations such as the Water Framework Directive that are designed to protect rivers, lakes and coastal waters in England.
