ECHA has recently published a report based on a project conducted by wca at the end of last year. Working in collaboration with ECHA, Olivia and I carried out market research to estimate the number of applications for 11 substances of very high concern (SVHCs) that the European Commission added to the Authorisation List in February 2020. This research indicated that many of the substances are not in use within the EU and for those substances currently in use there are likely to be just a few companies interested in continuing to use them. ECHA consider that this is a strong and positive indication that the authorisation system is driving companies towards safer alternatives.
