In April, the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) initiated a formal procedure to extend the registration deadlines under UK REACH by presenting the draft statutory instrument (SI) to the Parliament.

As explained in our earlier posts , the initial registration deadlines under UK REACH were 2023, 2025 and 2027, depending on the substance  tonnage and hazard properties. However, due to concerns raised by industry on the feasibility and cost of accessing data to fulfil their registration requirements, a consultation was launched during summer 2022. In November 2022, DEFRA announced that based on the outcome of the consultation, it was proposed to extend the original deadlines by 3 years each (October 2026, October 2028 and October 2030).

The draft statutory instrument will require a formal decision of approval before its entry into force, which is expected later this year.
