The evaluation of Persistent, Bioaccumulative and Toxic (PBT), very Persistent, very Bioaccumulative (vPvB), Persistent, Mobile and Toxic (PMT) and very Persistent, very Mobile (vPvM) properties requires the evaluation of all available information in a weight of evidence approach, including data from in vitro tests, human and animal studies, QSAR and read across, and monitoring and modelling studies. Assessments are required for substances under REACH and CLP, as well as other regulatory scenarios such as Pharma ERAs.
wca have conducted PBT and PMT assessments for a range of substances including difficult substances, such as chemical substances of Unknown or Variable composition, Complex Reaction Products and Biological Materials (UVCBs), and are experienced in responding to questions from ECHA on this topic. Our scientists have also contributed to key publications on this topic, such as our work on developing alternatives to the organic carbon partition coefficient (Koc) for screening for chemicals that will be mobile in the environment.
Examples of our services include:
• Determination of the relevant compartment of concern for a substance
• Data gap assessment, proposing testing strategies and commissioning of relevant testing, study monitoring and interpretation of the results
• Weight of evidence assessment for PBT/vPvB and PMT/vPvM properties.
• QSAR modelling of representative structures.
