Sabine E. Apitz, PhD is an oceanographer and environmental marine geochemist with over 20 years of experience in environmental research and consultancy in the academic, government and business sectors. Sabine is Director of SEA Environmental Decisions Ltd, an environmental consultancy providing technical support and guidance on issues of freshwater and marine environmental management, policy and research to an international group of clients. Sabine plays an integrating role in complex, interdisciplinary programs in which basic and applied research must be brought together, critically assessed and then linked to environmental policy and applications. A particular specialty is developing innovative conceptual approaches to provide cross-disciplinary and cross-organizational links, bridging the gaps between scientists, engineers, policy makers and the public. As such, much work is carried out in collaborative networks with other consultancies, universities and government agencies. She has been a visiting or adjunct professor at University of San Diego, San Diego State University and Cranfield University. She has served on a large number of national and international expert panels, advisory boards and committees, in Europe and North America, and is on the Editorial Board to two scientific journals – the Journal of Soils and Sediments and the SETAC-published Integrated Environmental Assessment and Management. Sabine has published over 150 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, editorials, articles and reports, and takes part in a broad range of interdisciplinary conferences, workshops, expert panels and short courses on a variety of basic and applied environmental topics, having given over 200 public presentations, many of them as an invited or keynote speaker.
