On October 21 and 22, the Independent Union of the European Lubricants Industry(UEIL) are holding their annual congress in Vienna. This meeting brings together representatives of all the key lubricant manufacturers to listen to presentations on technical and commercial aspects of the European and global lubricants industry. I will be chairing the entire congress on behalf of the UEIL, and will also be chairing a 90 minute session on the second day on various aspects of the REACH Regulation, with the title: Preparing for REACH. This will consist of a set of presentations on various aspects of REACH and substance classification by several industry experts, and also from an ECHA representative, followed by a Q&A session with the congress delegates. The topics to be covered will include Authorisation of chemicals, the Safety Data Sheet, Chemical Safety Assessments and Reports, together with a topical overview of the current status. This promises to be a lively session in view of the rapidly approaching deadline for the first wave of substance registrations (1 December 2010).
