Data collection relating to the use of cobalt.
This series of projects has been undertaken on behalf of the Cobalt REACH Consortia (CoRC) and the Cobalt Development Institute (CDI). The broad aim of the projects is to design surveys to gather data from manufacturers and importers (and occasionally also downstream users) on the uses of cobalt substances. The questions are designed to understand why the cobalt substance is often essential for a specific industrial use and the volumes used for each application. Data on the supply chains of cobalt substances provide valuable information on the importance of cobalt substances to society. The surveys also gather information on the availability of potential alternative substances that could be used as substitutes for cobalt for some applications. The results of the surveys have been summarised and reported so that they can be used by CoRC to update the REACH dossiers and by the CDI for advocacy purposes.
