A recent paper led by wca in Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry describing the application of the nickel Biotic Ligand Model to a number of both tropical and temperate species in Australian surface waters, is currently highlighted in the Editors Spotlight. The toxicity of nickel was tested on five Australian test species, a plant, an alga, a crustacean, a cnidarian, and a fish in five different field collected Australian freshwaters (more information on this publication is available here).

We are continuing to work with colleagues in Australia and New Zealand to consider how bioavailability might be included in future updates of Water Quality Guidelines for nickel.
